EarthFirst! infiltrated by PC wankers

Direct action environment group EarthFirst! has done the dirt on the very man who originally inspired their ideals and visions – Edward Abbey.

Abbey was ‘racist’ and ‘sexist’, according to this patronising piece in the EarthFirst! journal:

The article gives an interesting glimpse into the mindset of the politically correct. Despite everything Abbey did for the movement, these moralists can no longer even respect the great man’s memory – merely because he disagreed with them on ONE issue: immigration.

This kind of dogmatism helps turn the average person’s mind even further against environmentalism.

It’s time these kinds of censorious, PC tossers were shown the door. They give environmentalists everywhere a bad name…

I recommend reading “The Serpents of Paradise” where Abbey lets his true colors shine through. He describes the American Indians as “…foolish, and divided” because they “failed to keep our WASP ancestors out. They’ve regretted it ever since.”

So WHO is Abbey writing for here? He goes on to rant about how the “we” should militarize the borders and keep out the “poor and unskilled” people. Then, if you’re not convinced yet, Abbey goes on to complain that he can’t even use the good racial slurs anymore! Poor guy:

Even the terminology is dangerous: the old word wetback is now considered a racial insult by all good liberals; and the perfectly correct terms illegal alien and illegal immigrant can set off charges of xenophobia, elitism, fascism and the ever-popular genocide against anyone careless enough to used them. The only acceptable euphemism, it now appears, is something called undocumented worker. Thus the pregnant Mexican woman who appears, in the final stages of labor, at the doors of the emergency ward of an El Paso or San Diego hospital, demanding care for herself and the child she’s about to deliver, becomes an “undocumented worker.” The child becomes an automatic American citizen by virtue of its place of birth, eligible at once for all of the usual public welfare benefits. And with the child comes not only the mother but the child’s family. And the mother’s family? And the father’s family. Can’t break up families, can we? They come to stay and they stay to multiply. (pg. 377)

Like it’s only liberals and “PC” folk that don’t like the term “wetback” – like there are Mexicans all over that enjoy that phrase. “Yes, please sling your racial slurs at me in the name of free speech. I wouldn’t want to take away from your freedom, white man.” Poor guy can’t even be open about his racism anymore. And they “come to multiply”? ..as if there’s some grandiose plan to kick out the white man through generations of “illegal births.” Another example of Abbey’s pure ignorance (I hope that term is not too harsh – because, it’s not):

“For a moment I thought they were small deer. But all young bucks! With black spikes. And then I recognized them as desert pronghorn, a species almost extinct in the United States, though once quite numerous in southern Arizona. These had probably come up from Mexico, sliding under the fence like illegal immigrants.” (pg. 304)

The Library Journal review of Edward Abbey: A Life by James M. Cahalan claims “…the man himself was a complex individual who had a personality and lifestyle different from the persona in his books and articles. Cahalan successfully disproves some of the charges of racism and sexism leveled against Abbey while also showing that the redneck image of “Cactus Ed” he cultivated was really a fiction that he hid behind.” So, in other words, this racist attitude was just an act? Edward Abbey was doing Stephen Colbert? Seriously? Like he doesn’t really mean this stuff. He’s “just saying” – cuz someone has to say it?

This aside from the fact that Abbey refers to immigrants (read: brown people) as “…ignorant, unskilled, and culturally-morally-genetically, impoverished people.” Genetically? GENETICALLY?

It’s not just that Abbey was bad on immigration. He downright didn’t like Mexicans. It’s as simple as that. I sure this type of attitude has nothing to do with the poor Mexican workers who get jumped by white kids like yourself. Disgusting.

Dear dear, someone has their pantyhose in a twist!

In case you didn’t notice, mate, we live in Tasmania…so there aren’t too many ‘poor Mexican workers’ to ‘jump on’ around here.

Personally we agree with Abbey’s views to the extent that EVERY TRIBE SHOULD BE PREPARED TO DEFEND ITS LAND AGAINST INVADERS AND EXPLOITERS.

Inasmuch as certain immigrants move to America for purely money-making reasons, they are exactly that: invaders and exploiters.

Additionally, Abbey’s views on the American Indians are accurate…their divisiveness WAS their key weakness, and that should be a history lesson for all of us. I hope that white people (or any other race for that matter) don’t fall into the same trap the Indians did. Look at where it got them, their culture was uprooted and destroyed…

All this is beside the point, however. The point of the article is why a trivial issue like someone’s personal racial prejudices should invalidate the work they do for a much greater cause: saving the unspoilt wildernesses of the world from destruction.

You probably don’t care how many wildernesses are overrun, though, do you, as long as they are overrun by the ‘morally correct’?
